 EXCERPT

With excitement burning within and a newfound energy surging through her limbs, she ignored the candle and leapt the short distance to her cave entrance. Except it wasn’t a cave. Finding herself in a tunnel system, the girl quickly found herself running through man-made passageways. The oppressive air tasted stale in her mouth so she closed it and darted forward, guided by a tiny draft of fresh air that flowed towards her, carrying with it the promise of something new. Her eyes didn’t need light. They focused sharply through the dark and sought out every rock, every pothole, each new pathway. Her ears picked up the tiniest sounds, and every echo that bounced down the tunnels, her sense of smell driving her on.

After a while the track veered upwards sharply, the fresh air getting stronger, and the sound of a car door slamming and footsteps urging her on. Her gaze darted to the vast bottomless pit that suddenly fell away at her feet and she leapt the couple of metres across it effortlessly, continuing up the now narrow passageway, until she came to an old wooden barrier of sorts. The planks of wood had obviously been loosened and then nailed back in place, so she gave it a nudge, followed by a swift kick. As the rusty nails creaked ominously, the new nails easily flew from their resting place as several timbers shattered, falling to the floor to leave the remains of the barrier hanging dangerously from a couple of stubborn nails. The girl stared out at the dark night.

‘Ah, you’ve woken I see. Well, you’ll be pleased to see I’ve brought your dinner.’

The beautiful woman facing her with bright violet eyes and a light brown ponytail jolted a memory somewhere deep inside and the girl crouched into a defensive position, even though everything inside told her this was her master, her keeper, her protector. She watched as the woman turned back to the car, and as she opened the door the air was filled with an intoxicating, bloody scent that filled her senses and overtook all reason. She lunged toward the car and its occupant.

Hi I'm Emma. I am happily married with two lovely children. I have always loved reading and writing and published my first novel WitchBlood in Jan 2012 with Witchcraft following in June and WitchLove due in Feb 2013. After acquiring an obsessive love of supernatural teen novels...yes I'm a Twilight fan...I decided to write my own supernatural story based here in Manchester in the UK, near where I live and grew up. It's currently dark, windy, cold and very very wet... and easy to get inspiration.

Giveaway + Excerpt: WitchCraft by Emma Mills

The Blurb
Witchcraft (Witchblood, #2)

Jess is no ordinary vampire. Protected by the Manchester vampire clan, and initiated by her family’s east coast American coven, she is sought after by every dark witch and warring vampire faction. Jess must fight if she wants to keep hold of her friends, her sanity and finally her existence.

As the dead bodies of human girls begin to stack up, and her recently accepted vampire boyfriend, Daniel, finds himself in prison, Jess goes on a crazy, forbidden trip to London, racing against time to save an old friend and solve the mystery behind Daniel’s incarceration. In battling new enemies and finding new friends, Jess’s confidence finds room to grow, but who will she lose along the way?
A quiet knock sounded at her door, which seconds later swung open to reveal a pretty young nurse, her light brown hair swinging in a cute ponytail.

A quiet knock sounded at her door, which seconds later swung open to reveal a pretty young nurse, her light brown hair swinging in a cute ponytail.
‘Hi! I thought I heard you stir. How are you, Alex?’ she asked walking over to the bed. Alex looked at the nurse. There was something familiar about her, and yet she didn’t think this was a nurse she had seen at all over the past few days. She was certain she would recognise her if she had been, because she had beautiful, striking violet contact lenses in.

‘Yes, it was just another nightmare. I’m okay now, thanks,’ Alex said.

‘Oh good, because that makes my job all the more fun,’ the nurse said, closing the door quietly behind her and suddenly appearing at Alex’s side so unbelievably fast, it made her jump.

A memory was beginning to surface, a memory of one of the creatures from her nightmares, a creature with violet eyes. Alex shrank back into her bed and opened her mouth to scream, but a cold hand was clamped down upon it, nails digging into her cheeks.

‘Shhhhhhhhh, it will all be over soon,’ said the nurse with the violet eyes, as she bent over Alex and bit hard into her neck. Several minutes later the nurse stood up, wiped her mouth, and smiled down at the still, cold girl who would never have another nightmare again, and left the room.

Dream Cast+ Giveaway: WitchBlood Series by Emma Mills

Witchblood (Witchblood #1)
The Blurb
Witchblood
When Jess steals a glance at a gorgeous guy in a Manchester nightclub, little does she realise how he is going to change her life…or should that be death? Yet, the vampire clan could never have predicted what they were taking on.

With Luke pronounced ‘off-limits’ and the blood of a vampire simmering in Jess’s body, can she forget the love of her life and move on? If not, she will risk exposing the entire Northern vampire clan to untold dangers, in order to live her life the way she wants.

Can Jess be sure that Luke is all he appears to be? Will she succumb to the attraction she desperately tries not to feel for Daniel? And why does she still crave a packet of crisps more than a tasty teenage boy’s blood?

Hi Bookshelfconfessioners, I'm honored to welcome Emma Mills author of the WitchBlood series here on our site. She will tell us about her prospective Cast for the said series. Plus at the end of the post, is a giveaway of one of her books to the lucky commenter.

Dream Cast
It’s always great fun to do a ‘Dream Cast’ post. My only problem is that being in my thirties a lot of the Hollywood stars that come to mind are often too old to play the characters in my books! But it’s still great to imagine having my series made into Hollywood films with an unlimited budget at my disposal! So I’ve had a good hunt through Google and come up with the following cast listing for WitchLove:

Jess is quite tricky because I considered Jennifer Lawrence as I think she is a great role model for girls and I love her refusal to starve for Hollywood… but I think Jess needs to be English. She is an English girl and I rather think Emma Watson might just have the right amount of vulnerable independence about her!

Daniel only came to me whilst watching Glee the other week. One quick Googling later and my mind was made. Don’t you think Dean Geyer would make a perfect Daniel? His hair would need to be a bit darker!

I have always imagined Luke looking like Zac Effron. He is a bit too old now, but he has the right look.

Brittany is a tough one because she has half Latin blood and dark hair, but is only fifteen. The actress that comes to mind is Selena Gomez, but again at 20yrs old she is probably too old to pull Brittany off.

Eva is easy. There is nobody better to play smart, sexy, confident vampire, Eva than Mila Kunis.

So if Jennifer Lawrence wasn’t playing Jess, I’d have her for Saffy’s older sister, the wayward witch, Susannah and Emma Roberts would make a good all American, spoilt Saffy:

I could go on and find the rest of the Supernatural council but I think I’ve used up enough blog space! Thanks for hosting me! xxxx

Thanks so much Ms. Emma, that's a very impressive list of characters!

Witchcraft is the newest book in the fantastic Witchblood series by author Emma Mills. As I have said many times on this blog, what makes a book great for me is one that hooks me emotionally. Love or hate, sadness or happiness, anger or laughter. Those are the things that pull me in and keep me there....It was a bit darker than the first, taking me up, down, to the left, and to the right, and I loved every minute of it.
