Release Day Blitz: Asking for Trouble by Tessa Bailey

The Queen of Dirty Talking is back! Whether this is your first experience with Tessa Bailey’s dirty talking heroes or you’ve been following her all along, you don’t want to miss out on meeting Brent and Hayden. Their banter is witty, filled with sexual tension, and the sex itself is “fan-your-face” hot, according to an early review from USA Today Happily Ever After.
Here’s a dirty talking snippet just for you guys:
He leaned forward and spoke right against her ear. “Come for me right now and I’ll let you ride me as hard as you want later. I know what gets you off. I saw it in your eyes last night. You want to throw me down and fuck me, duchess? Good. I’m in the mood to let you.”
Now you see why she’s been dubbed the Queen of Dirty Talking!

About Asking for Trouble

Asking for Trouble (Line of Duty, #4)

Brent Mason and Hayden Winstead can't stand each other. She plans exclusive parties for her rich family’s charities. He’s a rough and tumble cop who rigs explosives for a living. Could two people be any less suited for conversation? They think not and prefer to keep it that way.

Unfortunately, their two best friends are deeply, disgustingly in love. Forced together, the mutual attraction simmering beneath the surface of Brent and Hayden’s non-relationship grows with every argument until it explodes into a scintillating night of mind-blowing sex. And it won’t be the last, as far as Brent’s concerned.

Hayden has a secret, though. Her father’s company is relying on a merger to save them from financial ruin, and only Hayden’s marriage to the CEO’s wealthy son can secure the deal. If she’s to protect her family, she’ll have to forget Brent. And he has no intention of being forgotten.

In celebration of her new release, Tessa Bailey’s first book Protecting What’s His is on sale for only ¢99 for two full weeks! (11/24 - 12/7) Just in time to gift it to everyone who appreciates a dirty talker.

About Protecting What’s His

Protecting What's His (Line of Duty, #1)

She’s running from the law, and the law wants her bad.
The opportunity was just too damn delicious for Ginger Peet to pass up. The purse full of money she finds—$50,000 to be exact—could give her and her teen sister the new start they need. So she grabs the cash, her gothy sibling, and their life-sized statue of Dolly Parton, and blows outta Nashville in a cloud of dust. Chicago, here we come...

Turns out, Chicago has some pretty hot cops. Hot, intense, naughty-lookin’ cops like Derek Tyler, who looks like he could eat a girl up and leave her begging for more. And more. Tempting as he is, getting involved with the sexy homicide lieutenant next door poses a teensy problem for a gal who’s on the lam. But one thing is certain—Derek’s onto her, and he wants more than just a taste.

And as far as he’s concerned, possession is nine-tenths of the law.

New Release + Excerpt:The Bionics Series by Alicia Michaels

New Release The Bionics Series by Alicia Michaels
We are so excited to share the official covers of the first two books in The Bionics Series by
Alicia Michaels! Both books released through Crimson Tree Publishing (The Adult Imprint of Clean teen Publishing) on September 13, 2013.

The Bionics (Book 1)
$.99
(New Adult or YA Mature)

The year is 4010.
Nuclear war and the wasteful nature of humans have all but destroyed the United States. A new government regime rules the day with strict laws, rationed food, and careful control. When those injured in the nuclear blasts that rocked many of the nations largest cities are offered another chance by the Restoration Project, how could they refuse?

Little do they know that the robotic additions to their body will paint targets on their backs once the government decides that they are dangerous. At the forefront of the resistance is a girl with a bionic eye, Blythe Sol, who wants nothing more than to be a normal girl. Blythe has yet to realize that normal will never exist again for her, or anyone else.

The Revolution has begun...

All I ever wanted was to be a normal girl. I had dreams of joining the ranks of the Military Police and making my family proud. But the nuclear war that laid waste to our country destroyed any hope I had of being normal ever again. They took everything away from me, including my humanity. I am now half-human, half-machine, part of the never-ending freak show that is the Restoration Project.

They hate what they created and they fear us for being powerful.

And so they hunt us, destroying our lives so that they can bury what they built. What they don’t know is this: there is a Resistance out there and The Bionics aren’t going down without a fight.

Titanium (Book 2)
$2.99
(New Adult or YA Mature)
We stand on the brink of a double rescue mission, a plan so foolhardy that even our bravest men are quaking inside with fear. Storm the capitol, free the prisoners, don’t get killed. It seems like a suicide mission, but not a single one of us has anything to lose.

In my past life, I was a scoundrel; a drug peddling street thug who cared nothing for anyone because I had no one to care for me. The nuclear blasts of 4006 reminded me of the value of life, and a girl with the saddest eyes I’ve ever gazed into gave me someone to care for. Now, as we embark on our most dangerous enterprise, I can only hope that we make it out alive and that those we have lost can be recovered.

Foolishness … fear … hope … These are the elements that threw our revolution into motion. As the momentum of the Resistance continues to build, we can only pray that hope continues grow larger than our fear.

Excerpt from The Bionics:

“I wish that I had died that day,” I admit, unable to look away from his gaze no matter how much my mind tells me that I need to. “I wish that all the time.”
He inches closer to me on the bed. “Is it really so bad? Professor Hinkley gave you and the others a second chance at life. It’s not fair that the government has decided you and others like you pose a threat.”

I think about a news broadcast I saw a couple of weeks ago, showing a surveillance video of a man with an arm identical to mine smashing in the window of someone’s car and beating them to a bloody pulp for no reason, before pulling a limp body from the driver’s seat and driving off in the stolen vehicle. Of course the thief was found and immediately executed; no trail, no jury, no questions asked.
“Some of us are dangerous,” I answer, and of course, it’s the truth.
“Some  people  are dangerous,” he insists. “Bionics are still people….just modified.”
“Right now your blood pressure is 124/90, your heart rate is an elevated 70 beats per minute; not bad, but still high for a healthy male that I assume is athletic. You have a tattoo on your left arm of an eagle, and a fractured rib.”
“That is amazing.”
I shrug. “It’s my eye. It is capable of reading a person’s body heat signature as well as their vital statistics. It allows me to pull away individual layers, such as clothing, skin, and muscle to expose what’s underneath. It’s how I knew about the rib.”
I reach out with my bionic arm and poke the rib for emphasis, raising my eyebrows as he winces in pain. “Still think I’m human?”
Gage reaches for my arm—my robotic arm—and grabs it by the hand. I can’t feel it, or his hand circling the wrist above it. His eyebrows wrinkle as he turns my arm over, inside facing up. He traces the inside of my arm, his fingers sliding over the cool metal and, for the first time since I woke up with that hunk of machinery on the other end of my elbow, I am wishing that I could feel the damn thing.
“Cold,” he murmurs as he draws circles on the metal. His fingers stop on the inside of my elbow, on the line where the titanium ends and I begin. I hear his breath catch in his throat and another noisy swallow as the pad of his index finger slides over my skin. I gasp as he trails it up the inside of my arm, flesh now on flesh. The human contact that I’ve denied myself for years has left me sensitive to every touch, and I feel as if I’m being caressed for the first time.
Of course Dax has held my hand from time to time; he’s even held me against him some nights when the nightmares get particularly bad until I fall back asleep. But he’s never touched me like this, and while I’m no virgin I certainly feel like one right now. A thousand emotions are exploding in me at one time and just as many sensations are following the path his finger traces up to my shoulder, pausing at the strap of my tank top.
“Warm,” he says with a smile. “Only about….what…ten percent of you is metal. When I got past your elbow, I felt skin, blood flowing through veins, muscle, and…goose bumps?”
He says that last bit with a smile, forcing me to look away in embarrassment. He holds his arm out toward me, pulling up the sleeve of his shirt and revealing a tanned arm sprinkled with light blond hair, which is standing on end. He leaves the sleeve above his elbow and holds his arm out in front of me.
“See?” he says gently, his head way too close to mine, his breath brushing my cheek. “I have them too.”
I reach out with my human hand and touch his arm. His opposite hand comes up to cover mine.
“If anything,” he says, his fingers gripping mine tightly, “the additions to your body give you character. They tell a story about where you’ve been.”
He pauses, leaning in so close that locks of his hair brush my forehead. “Where  have  you been, Blythe?”
I know he’s referring to the screams and my nightmare. I wonder if I can put him off like I do the others, but quickly realize by the glint in his eyes that he’s not letting me off that easy. I clear my throat and open my mouth, but no sound comes out. Gage leans forward and presses his lips to mine, taking advantage of my open mouth to nibble on my lower lip.
With a soft sigh, he closes the distance between us and cups my face in his hands, taking my breath away with the simple act of molding his mouth to mine. My hands resting on his thick thighs, I come up on my knees on the bed, leaning into him, trembling both inwardly and outwardly, unsure of what I’m doing or why I’m doing it, but know that I can’t stop. Kissing Gage feels like walking down the street used to be before the government labeled Bionics as dangerous. It feels like freedom.
“Hey Blythe, I couldn’t sleep and I was thinking…”
Dax’s voice trails off as the door to the bathroom we share knocks against the wall, pushed open by my bone-headed best friend who never knocks because he knows I’m never doing anything he can’t see me doing.
Except this time.
This time, guilt propels me away from Gage and back against the headboard, my lowered eyelids shielding me from Dax’s dark glare.
“Sorry,” he says, sounding anything but. “Didn’t realize you’d have a visitor at three o’clock in the goddamn morning.”
Part of me wants to rip Dax a new asshole for being such a jerk. What right does he have being mad at me when I know he’s screwed Olivia on several occasions, and who knows what other groupies he’s got salivating over him in both Mosley and Hexley Halls? Another part of me feels like I just got caught doing something unforgiveable, although I’m not sure if it was that I kissed someone, or if it’s just the fact that the someone I kissed happens to be Gage.

THE COMPANY OF KINGS
New York City, 2013

Gloomy shadows crept across the tired oak floor, stealing what little light peered in through a set of stained glass windows.   A dying fire crackled in the corner, its golden embers fading as quickly as the old man who lay near it.
Angus MacBain stood at the foot of his grandfather’s four-poster bed, his hope slipping away with every rattling exhale from the old man’s lungs.   Cocooned in a series of heavy plaid blankets bearing the family tartan, Duncan MacBain struggled to free a withered hand.   He motioned for his grandson to come closer.   Angus took a few stumbling steps, sank to his knees and grasped the thin hand in his.
Duncan raised his head from the pillow.   His eyes seemed to glow in the dimness of the bedroom.   Gnarled fingers pressed something hard and bulky into Angus’ palm, then closed his hand around it and squeezed.   The object cut into the boy’s flesh, but he didn’t try to pull away.
“You’re thirteen now, almost a man.  You’ve got to be brave.  Remember, you’re a MacBain.”  The old man inhaled another ragged breath.  “The arrangements have already been made.  There will be no funeral.  I’m sending you to Scotland—to Iona.  You must leave now.”  His grandfather’s steely eyes pinned Angus to the floor.  “Strange things will happen—things that—just be careful, lad.”

“No, I won’t go.   Not without you.”   He buried his head in his grandfather’s chest. Angus’ throat constricted like a drawstring jerked tight. Tears sprang to his eyes.
“Don’t cry for me, laddie.   I’ll be in the company of kings.”
With that, Duncan MacBain heaved his final breath.
Angus squeezed his eyes shut.   After a weary moment, he opened them to gaze at his grandfather’s motionless body.   With the tension removed from the old Scotsman’s features, he looked relaxed, at peace.   Even so, a bitter rush of sadness swept through Angus and the hole in his heart his grandfather had filled when his parents died, now returned.   Angus’ chest tightened.   Every breath seemed to take more effort than it was worth.
The palm of his hand throbbed.   He unclenched his fist and examined an amulet attached to a heavy chain.   It looked old, perhaps even ancient, with a silver long-tailed dragon clutching a purple thistle in its talons.   Words scribed in a foreign language glistened on its wings.
His father had worn a dragon amulet.   Angus frowned trying to remember what it looked like.   Did it also have a thistle? Could it be the same one?   He’d been so young when his father died, he couldn’t remember.   He slipped it around his neck, the amulet warm against his chest.
“I’ll take care of it,” Angus whispered.   “I promise.”
Angus made his way down the narrow hallway to Grandfather’s study.   An antique clock ticked solemnly on the mantel.   Without grandfather, the room seemed so different. Barren. Unfriendly. Cold.   He fell into a cushy gray recliner that always reminded him of elephant skin and let it swallow him. Maybe if he just closed his eyes for a few moments, he’d wake up and it would have all been some kind of terrible dream. But no matter how he tried he couldn’t keep his eyes shut.
His gaze traveled over the towering bookcases lining the walls, filled with ancient volumes bound by his grandfather’s hands.   Silent rows of books stared back at him, like leather corpses resting in their tombs.   On a nearby workbench, marbled scraps of leather, paste, and a rounding hammer gathered around a dusty press.
Angus’ throat burned.  He’d never be his grandfather’s apprentice again, never help him repair old books about castles, dragons and other tales.
Now he had no one, except Grandfather’s nurse, Vera. Even though she was very nice, he barely knew her.
Angus shuffled down the hallway to his lonely room and packed his things.   He made sure he had his games and the favorite collection of vampire tales his grandfather had bound for him.   He flopped onto his twin bed and glanced at his watch.   Angus’ heart twisted.   Very soon, Nurse Vera would take him to the airport and he’d fly to a strange place he’d only heard stories about.
Angus scanned his bedroom for the last time, memorizing every detail so he’d never forget.   Bare spots on the wall stared back at him, places where his Dracula posters once hung.   In a fit of misery, he’d torn them down and ripped them to shreds.
There was no such thing as vampires and other magical creatures. Life wasn’t about fairy tales, only heartache, despair and death.
Angus narrowed his eyes. If only death were a living thing—he’d destroy it. Make it suffer for ripping away all the people in his life that had loved him. Rage and frustration twisted inside of him.
Angus grabbed an antique sword hanging on his bedroom wall and stabbed it into the center of his mattress. Sparks flew from the bed. Celtic swirls carved into the handle of the sword started to spin. A banging sound hammered into his head like being trapped in a giant bell. He fell to his knees covering his ears. The noise died down and a voice broke into his head.
“Are you all right, Dear?”
Angus uncovered his ears and peered up at Nurse Vera. She never called him by name just, “Dear.” Nurse Vera glanced at her watch. “I’ll help you pack your things then it’s off to the airport with you.” Nurse Vera placed a hand on Angus’ forehead.   “You look so tired and it’s such a long flight. Promise me you’ll try to get some rest on the plane, Dear.”
Angus nodded. He waited for Nurse Vera to see the sword and scold him for messing with something so dangerous, but she just stood there, her eyes filled with concern. Angus glanced at the bed to look at the sword—but the sword was gone.

I feel so naked,” Marti whispered while gripping her beach towel.
That’s because you are naked,” Kayla giggled.
The full moon reflected off the water and the lights from the distant lodge glowed like a string of holiday lights.
If I get caught, my mom is going to kill me,” Haley groaned.
Come on. There’s far worse things we could get caught doing,” Brooke reminded her.
Yeah, like the guys showing up,” Haley said.
They arrived at the sandy expanse and stood in a tight clump, staring at the water.
Now what? Who’s going first? ‘cause I can guarantee it won’t be me,” Marti said.
I’ll go. I don’t care.” Brook took a quick glance around before she tossed her towel aside and stepped into the water.

Back in college, the bras-before-bros sisterhood decided to live for achievement in the boardroom, not the bedroom. Rosalind Betters embraced that philosophy, pursuing her career and little else. But when her last single friend, Kamakshi, announces her engagement in of all things, an arranged marriage, Rosalind reevaluates the merits of matrimony. In her typical gung ho fashion, she names a date, books a venue, hires a caterer, and picks out a dress, all before finding a groom. Taking a lesson from Kamakshi and too busy to do otherwise, Rosalind hires San Francisco's best headhunter, Xavier Hommes, to find her better half for her.
At first, Xavier thinks Rosalind is one of the eccentric personalities for which the city is famous. As the search starts, however, Xavier finds himself hating his task for reasons he never would have suspected. If Rosalind really wants a man who will make her happy, she need look no further. As W-Day approaches and Rosalind starts falling for someone Xavier himself headhunted, he walks the line between professionalism and passion, trying to decide if competing to become Mr. Betters is worth the risk to his commission, his reputation, and Rosalind's happiness.

EXCERPT 4

Tonight’s agenda would feature lots of high-priced, high-spirited, celebratory drinking.
She’d done it, she’d actually closed the biggest deal of her life with one of the biggest corporations in the world. Now, half the laptops, smartphones and cheese graters in the world would carry BetaHouse applications, with an easy option to upgrade to the pro version with just a few clicks and a credit card. Already, she was looking forward to the huge bonus she’d be able to give her employees this year. The hundred or so employees she had had really been working their tails off, pulling sixty hour weeks without any time off for months. She was committed to making sure each and everyone one of them shared in this victory. For the moment, however, she was going to celebrate her own success in sealing the deal.
Had she really thought six years ago when she left Stanford as a wide-eyed masters student, that she’d come so far, so fast?
Of course she had; that’s how she’d planned it, after all.
The click-clack of Rosalind Betters’s Prada pumps laid down a driving tempo for the victory parade through SFO. In typical fashion, the moment the captain flicked off the seatbelt light, she had her iPhone in hand, catching her up on all the news she missed since in the twenty minutes since the in-flight WiFi had been cut off. A small time in the grand scheme of things, but enough time for the world to change in the Silicon Valley Pacific time zone.
But atypically, this time reports about the goings on of her competitors and the latest stock prices took a back burner. The big clock on the wall in the terminal read three fifty-eight. Two more minutes until the embargo passed, and the news about her deal went out in an automated press release. Two minutes until she was officially the toast of the industry and, oh yes, not less than a little wealthier for the exchange.
Top shelf liquor tonight. And tapas. For some reason, she really wanted tapas.
Like all breaking news, Twitter caught fire first. At four-o-six, @TechBizTimes declared “Bigger and Betters gets bigger and better in $30 million contract from leading industry firm.” Then slowly at first, but with growing momentum, the headline infected all the ping-pong accounts, creating leader links which harvested readers to advertising-cluttered websites, each echoing the details of the deal with further clarity, a new angle, a deeper, more exclusive snippet. BetaHouse was hotter than celebrity trash, in the right circles, that was.
Rosalind was just about to shove her phone back in her bag when she felt it buzz against her palm. The text message made her grin like the cat that got the cream.
Kam: Oh my god, Raz, is this true?
Rosalind had been bursting to tell Kamakshi the news since the ink was on the paper earlier in the day. She had had no doubt her best friend of ten years would be surfing the news streams to see what had Rosalind’s Facebook emoticon showing a toothy smile.
A driver stood curbside just outside the baggage claim, holding a placard on which Rosalind’s name was printed in clinical text. Rosalind held the phone to her ear as she maneuvered through the crowd, her other hand pulling her roller carryon bag as though it were an unruly child insistently out of a candy shop. Somewhere between Washington and California, she’d misplaced her earpiece. Her neck would remind her of the injury all night. After depositing herself in the backseat, she dialed Kamakshi’s cell.
You think news programs lie?” she asked before her best friend had even had time to say hello.
There was no reply from the other party.
I mean about something like this,” Rosalind clarified. “Kam, I wanted to call you and tell you this morning right after I got out of the meeting, but they convinced me someone might be listening in on the call. I had to wait until it went public.”
No, I understand. Sometimes you have to keep things confidential. But you really think that someone might have bugged your phone or tapped your signal?”
Your brother told me he hooked me up proper when he outfitted BetaHouse’s cells, but with everything you see in the news these day…” Her voice tapered off as she remembered the look on the executives’ faces when they had made the request of her. “To tell the truth, I think they were just pissed that I had an iPhone. Apple is their biggest competitor, but it wasn’t as though half of their corporate office didn’t have them either. Geesh. You want to test it to make sure?”
Kamakshi giggled. “Sure, how?”
Say something you think would make Perez Hilton or the bloggers on CNET salivate.”
Naked Justin Bieber!”
Salivate, not squirm!” The squawking laugh drew a raised eyebrow via the rearview mirror from the driver. “Seriously, though. About me.”
Rosalind Betters hasn’t had sex in two years!”
Rosalind’s hand slapped over her mouth, a mixture of surprise and incredulity. “Kam!”
It wasn’t untrue, unfortunately. Not as though she’d marked the date and kept track. Scanning through the Google calendar in her mind, however, she supposed the math worked out about right. Her brief fling with Craig Ipswitch counted as just another statistic in the graveyard of dead-end relationships, a scenic scattering hosting more than one unkempt and overgrown crypt. All serious suitors had been killed off or seriously maimed – metaphorically speaking- by the growth of her startup the past few years.
C’est la vie. Every silver lining had its cloud. One thing Rosalind knew for sure: unlike scores of literary inventions and hallmark movie heroines, no empty place in her heart existed where a widget called “man” would fit. It wasn’t as though she and Craig had parted on bad terms either. They had a fling both had enjoyed, a few rounds of sheet tag, and then they parted with best wishes to the other. She just couldn’t seem to convince herself the benefit of the relationship justified all the effort to keep it going.

About the Author

Sadly, this sarcastic lexophile leads a rather mundane existence in the San Francisco Bay Area. She once dreamed of being the female Indiana Jones, and to that end she earned a degree in Middle Eastern History from the University of Michigan. However, when she learned that real archaeologist spend more time lovingly removing dust with toothbrushes from shards of pottery than outrunning intriguing villains with exotic accents, she decided to become a writer instead. Dying of thirst is the new reality.

Five years after the last drop of clean water disappeared, global societies collapsed and nuclear war shattered all hope of recovery. In a place now only a skeleton of its former self, survivors fight to avoid capture by the government. Forced to work in factories that produce the only drinking water available, those who go in, never come out.

Zach and Vivienne have lived as deserters since they were teenagers. Fighting amongst their own and scrounging for the necessities of life, they’ve learned to rely on each other in every way. Yet when tragedy strikes and the true objectives of the government facility are revealed, their world is ripped apart.

A fate once thought to hold their demise may be the sole answer to their survival. Who can they trust? Who can they believe?

Waterproof Excerpt 2

Vivienne yelled out and I whipped my head around to see what happened. The last man standing held an impressive hunting knife in his hand, while Vivienne had a fresh cut on her arm. Still, she held steady, sword gripped tightly in front of her, legs in a fighting stance.

Something stirred inside of me at the sight. Time slowed when I watched her wield the sword like an ancient warrior. It was hard to imagine that just a few years ago we were in high school worrying about football games and which party to go to on the weekend. Now we stayed in abandoned houses, scrounged for water, and spent most of our lives running. If things had been different, Vivienne and I would be graduating college this year. I had plans to go into medicine, and she wanted to be a vet. Funny how those dreams seemed so far away now.

A loud thump echoed through the now darkened night. She almost fell to the ground with the amount of momentum needed to decapitate the man. He dropped to his knees like a sinner begging for mercy, head rolling further down the hill. My stomach fluttered with admiration and annoyance.

“I didn’t need your help,” I said to her, getting up on my feet and trying not to wince at my injuries.

“Sure,” she huffed. Ripping her bandana off her face she tore it in two. “Here, wrap that up.” She nodded toward the tear in my sleeve and I stubbornly yanked the cloth out of her hand.

“I had everything under control,” I said between clenched teeth. It was the only way to mask the pain. “How did you know where to find me?”

“I followed the girly shrieks,” she said without missing a beat. I looked down at her in time to see a smirk pull at the corner of her mouth. “Let me do it.”

Once again, I allowed Vivienne to rescue me. It killed every part of that male ego inside, but I knew she’d let me do the same for her. In fact, I had. We always saved each other.

“Ow,” I said when she tightened the bandana a little too rough around my arm.

“Stop being a baby.”

“Stop showing off your man strength.”

She pulled even tighter but let a small laugh escape. I sucked in a breath at that sound, realizing how close I’d come to never hearing it again.

“Are you hurt anywhere else?” she asked, turning me around and patting her hands along my body. I froze, trying to ignore how comforting her touch felt. We’d been friends for years, and she was the only person in this world I trusted. Why had I risked so much for this run?

I stepped away from her, not liking where my thoughts were headed. “I’m fine,” I mumbled. “Stop mothering me.”

“I wouldn’t have to if you’d listen to me.” She stopped in front of my face and stared me down. I stood a little over six feet tall and she was just a few inches shorter. Together with that glare, almost any man would cower under her. “Was it worth it?”

“Huh?”

“The water. How much did you get?”

I hung my head in embarrassment. “I had eight, but they shot through one. So six, I guess.”

“Six bottles?” She looked impressed.

“No, six liters.” Silence.

“You just made me kill three men for six liters of water?”

I shuffled my feet. “You only killed two.”

She reached out so quickly, I couldn’t defend myself. Both hands pushed against my chest and I stumbled back, falling to the ground.

“I could make it three,” she hissed. “I should kill you for your stupidity alone.”
