Hello
Ms. C.C. Hunter. Welcome to Bookshelf Confessions. It's a pleasure
to have you today. I still can’t believe that I have you for an
interview in my bloggoversary despite your busy schedule :) Thank you
so much for this.
I've
been lucky to read Whispers at Moonrise.Check out my ARC review here :) Truly, the Shadow Falls
series is one-of-a-kind, how would you describe it to someone who
hasn't read any of the books from the said series?
CC:
Hmm . . . Well, I’d probably tell them that my story is about
Kylie Galen who has spent sixteen years trying to figure out who she
is, only to discover she doesn’t know what
she is. Kylie’s story is a journey of self-discovery. One that
shows the struggles all teenagers face: relationships with peers,
boys, and parents. It’s a story that I feel reflects real life, in
that it has both humor and heart. It is a story about characters
finding the right path, finding self-confidence and dealing with the
good and bad that makes up life.

C.C:
Della Tsang, a sassy, spunky vampire, was a
great secondary character in the first five Shadow Falls books with
plenty of attitude to spare. She’s a tough, kick-ass kind of girl,
but vulnerable at the same time. She’s been let down, both by her
family and the boyfriend she loved. But, since all the previous
Shadow Falls books were in Kylie’s point of view, I never got to
delve into the depth of Della’s character. I had finished Chosen
at Nightfall when suddenly the idea
to write a novella about Della hit. I had so much fun writing that
story and her character just seemed to jump off the page.

In the book, Della is forced to face some of her own personal demons. She finds herself falling hard for Steve, the good-looking shape-shifter who sees through her tough exterior and knows she needs to learn to trust again. But before she can do that she needs to uncover some family secrets. Could she have other relatives who are vampire? The story, like Kylie’s, has mystery, suspense, humor, some hot guys, and tons of action. Oh, I just finished a scene where Miranda’s ability to change people into kangaroos has popped up again. Only this time it saved the day. I’m having a blast writing this book.

Your
books have unique titles, Saved at Sunrise, Chosen at Nightfall, to
name a few. If you were writing a book about your life, what would
the title be?
C.C.:
Great question. Wow, that’s a deep one. I think the title of my
life would have to somehow highlight that I’ve overcome so many
odds to achieve what I have. Maybe it would be: “Just Watch Me.”
Being dyslexic makes writing a challenge. But I guess I can say I
like to be challenged. Like my characters, I had a quest, a dream of
becoming a writer, and I wasn’t going to let anything stand in my
way. When I first started writing some people thought I was crazy.
I had too much to learn and overcome to make it as a published
writer. Some people flat out told me that I should give up. But I
proved them wrong. And that persistence shows up in most everything
I do in my life. I don’t mind working hard for what I want. If I
need to learn something, I work at learning it, and I don’t give up
easily. That said, I sort of grew into this character trait. When I
was young, much like Kylie Galen, I was the quiet one. I lacked
self-confidence. It was hard for me to stand up for myself. I
think writing and reading about characters who struggled somehow
helped me to keep going. And I hope my books do that for others.
Before
we end this interview, I’d love to ask you to say something for the
readers of Bookshelf Confessions and I would also like to thank you
from the bottom of my heart for taking time to answer these
questions.
C.C.:
Thank you so much, Abby for having me. What
I’d like to say to your readers is that I hope they enjoy my books
and I hope they look forward to following Della as the story of
Shadow Falls continues. I also hope they find books, not just mine,
but all good books, as a little vacation from the everyday life.
Happy
reading.
