I’ve always written scripts for my perfect life.
But no way could I have ever scripted this.
My life is so far from perfect, it’s not even funny.
All because of a stalker.
I’m at a boarding school where I have to lie about who I am.
I can’t see my family.
I’m tutoring a hottie god that tortures me with his smile.
The most popular girl already hates me.
But there’s this boy.
This hot, sweet, sexy boy.
So I’m going to stop trying to script my life and just live it.
Because who knows how long I have left.

Jillian Dodd Talks Keatyn Chronicles Inspiration

I love series. I love getting to know characters and then going through their life with them. When I read a series, I feel like I’m getting back together with my friends.

I wanted to write a long series. I knew I wanted the majority of it set in boarding school. How I got to this series was a long process. At first, my thought was to have Keatyn decide she wanted to get away from the pressures of her old school. That she would choose to go there and that she would choose to lie about who her mom was. She wanted to make true friends. But that was kind of boring and the first time things got tough, she would’ve said screw it and went back home. So then I needed a reason to make her stay. That’s when the stalker storyline came into it. I needed bigger stakes to drive the series. But really, it’s always been about her and a certain boy. It’s really their love story. About figuring out who you are. About how sometimes fate does intervene in your life. Like if you believe in all that stuff. True Love. Fairy Tales. I think we all want to believe in that. Keatyn lives an extravagant lifestyle, but she is the same inside as we all are. She wants people to like her. She wants to be loved. And she wants the dream guy. The guy she’s destined to be with forever.

About the Author
Jillian Dodd grew up on a farm in Nebraska, where she developed a love for Midwestern boys and Nebraska football. She has drank from a keg in a cornfield, attended the University of Nebraska, got to pass her candle, and did have a boy ask her to marry him in a bar. She met her own prince in college, and they have two amazing children, a Maltese named Sugar Bear, and two Labrador puppies named Camber Lacy and Cali Lucy.
She is the author of the That Boy Trilogy and The Keatyn Chronicles Series.

EXCERPT #2

“You look beautiful,” a familiar voice said.

I turned around. Christian was standing directly in front of me, only a few inches of air between us. The nearness made my heart race. I lowered my eyes. “Thank you. You look good too.”

“I want to dance with you,” he said, breathing deeply.

I looked up, glancing around nervously. “You can’t. You know that.”

He closed the small space between us until I was forced to step back. “I don’t care.” He moved toward me again.

My cheeks flushed, and I made the mistake of looking into his eyes; they burned with passion, and the lights above reflected in them, making them even more intense. He reminded me of a hungry wolf. I stepped back again. “We can’t.”

He moved forward. After me. I continued backing up to keep our bodies from touching, but he wouldn’t stop.

I glanced behind me. Christian was guiding me into the long, white curtains hanging from the ceiling. “We can’t do this, Christian. You have to stop.”

I felt the soft material part as I stepped backward into it; the silkiness of it against my back was like a hand caressing my skin. I sucked in air and continued to move into the white layers until they hid us completely.

Christian said nothing. His gaze left my eyes and traveled to my mouth, considering it like it was something he wanted to conquer. My lips parted in anticipation of what was to come. His fingers found mine, and he tugged my hand forward, pulling my body next to his. His other arm tightened against my back until I was pressed against him.

Christian’s lips fell onto my neck. Very gently, he kissed my skin. His mouth continued to trail up my neck until he found my lips. The kiss started out soft, but all of a sudden my arms were around his neck, trying to get him even closer.

“Um, you guys might want to stop.”

I immediately stepped back, my breathing coming in great gasps.

May was a few feet away, parting the curtains. “Sophie’s looking for you, Christian. And she’s mad.”

I looked back at Christian. He was staring at me, breathing just as hard and cheeks flushed. He smiled. “I better go.”

I nodded.

Christian remained where he was, still looking at me like he wasn’t finished. I didn’t dare move either. I didn’t want to.

“Oh, come on!” May said. She pushed Christian away. “And straighten your tie!”

Christian looked over his shoulder at me and winked before he disappeared.

AMBER GARR:  Updates and Facelifts
A blog post from Amber Garr's blog: Amber Garr: The Evolution of a Muse

One of the perks about being indie...I have the flexibility to update manuscripts and covers!

After taking a break from The Syrenka Series, I went back and made some tweaks to Promises (particularly in the first chapter) and have uploaded the new version. You can find it here or here. No major changes, just cleaning it up a bit. I have a feeling every time I re-read I will want to change this word or that word, so this has satisfied me for now. I also have something in the works for this series and hope to announce it within the month. Stay tuned!

Deciding that this is the year to make stuff happen (more on that later), I recently teamed up with a local graphic artist who's going to help me achieve my goals. Although not part of my original plan, we started talking about book covers and I asked her to take a look at Touching Evil. Now, I LOVED the photo on the cover as it so perfectly matched up with a couple of scenes in the book, but it was missing...something.

A few emails with Kristin...and here we go. The BRAND NEW cover of Touching Evil! What do you think? For those that have read it, the demon eyes can mean several things and I love how c-reepy they look!

COVER COMMENT: I believe the cover just got creepier.. well, it truly depicts the book, So what do you think?

Excerpt 4
Layla looked back to the horizon, watching the sun’s final flicker fade into the sea. Then Quin’s voice broke through the chorus of crashing waves.
“Why did you move to Oregon, Layla?”
She abandoned the ocean view, tilting her head back to find a better one. In the dark, Quin’s eyes were like shiny, onyx marbles framed by black velvet lashes. “I heard it’s a nice place to live,” she answered, short of breath.
“Where were you living?” he asked.
“Oklahoma.”
“That’s a long way away. Don’t you have people there who’ll miss you?”
“Sure. My friends Travis and Phyllis will miss me.”
“No family?”
“No.”
His forehead creased, but he didn’t press for an explanation. “Still, that’s a big leap of faith—moving halfway across the country for no reason.”
“Is it not a leap of faith even if you have a reason?” she countered.
He pulled his right hand from his pocket and slowly reached up, halting an inch from her face. Then he moved his fingers to a spiral that had escaped her ponytail. “I guess it would be. Did you have a reason?”
“I wanted to get out of Oklahoma,” she answered, more enraptured by him than the world’s largest ocean.
“And you heard Oregon was nice,” he returned, raising a skeptical eyebrow.
Layla chewed her lip, wondering how much she should divulge. Then she took another leap of faith. “I recently found out I have family here.”
“There it is,” he approved. “Are you here to see them?”
“Um… not really. I don’t know their names, let alone their addresses, so I’ll probably never meet them. It was just time for a move, and Oregon was as good a place as any.” She glanced at the ocean then back to his face. “Better actually.”

Unable to resist the infuriating yet alluring Levi, Allie finds herself at the center of a supernatural society and forced to decide between following the path she has always trusted or saving a city that might just save her.

The Inspiration Behind the Crescent Chronicles
By Alyssa Rose Ivy
I love Paranormal Romance novels, and I always said that if I was going to write one, it had to be set in New Orleans. Originally from New York, I was entranced by New Orleans when I moved down for college.

After spending four years in that amazing city, I realized that if the supernatural really did exist, it would be found there. There is just something about that city that makes you believe it’s possible.
My experiences as a college student in New Orleans definitely influenced and inspired the series. Sprinkled throughout the books are some actual antidotes’ from my own life. For example, I witnessed a ‘vampire wedding,’ in New Orleans that inspired the scene in Flight when Allie is shocked to see people with fangs drinking from a chalice. Although the majority of the series is pure fiction, it’s been a writing experience full of nostalgia.

Win and Read Boys of Summer by C.J Duggan

Title: The Boys of Summer
Author: C.J. Duggan
Release date: December 17th 2012
Genre: Romance
Age Group: New Adult

It seemed only natural to nickname them the ‘Onslow Boys’. Every time they swaggered in the front door of the Onslow Hotel after a hard week’s work, their laughter was loud and genuine as they settled onto their bar stools. I peeked through the restaurant partition, a flimsy divider between my world and theirs. I couldn’t help but smile whenever I saw them, saw him ... Toby Morrison.

Quiet seventeen-year-old Tess doesn’t relish the thought of a summertime job. She wants nothing more than to forget the past haunts of high school and have fun with her best friends before the dreaded Year Twelve begins.
To Tess, summer is when everything happens: riding bikes down to the lake, watching the fireworks at the Onslow Show and water bomb fights at the sweltering Sunday markets.

How did she let her friends talk her into working?

After first-shift disasters, rude, wealthy tourists and a taunting ex-boyfriend, Tess is convinced nothing good can come of working her summer away. However, Tess finds unlikely allies in a group of locals dubbed ‘The Onslow Boys’, who are old enough to drive cars, drink beer and not worry about curfews. Tess’s summer of working expands her world with a series of first times with new friends, forbidden love and heartbreaking chaos.

All with the one boy she has never been able to forget.

It will be a summer she will always remember.

Warning: sexual references and occasional course language.

Excerpt 1
“Don’t you dare.” I grabbed his arm, pulling him backwards. His eyes darted to where my hand rested on him. I didn’t move my hand, I couldn’t physically bring myself to break the contact; all of a sudden there were no smiles, no jokes, just him and me and our space on the couch. I could only hear the music and be aware of the heat of his skin and the rapid rise and fall of my chest in this moment.
The only thing that snapped me out of my daze was Toby’s words which seemed low and raspy.
“Is Adam your boyfriend?” His gaze flicked over my face as he waited for my answer. My mouth gaped open; I couldn’t hide the fact I was dumbfounded by the question.
I blinked quickly and took my hand from his arm. I struggled to construct a legible sentence.
“Oh – um, no, we’re just friends, it’s not like that.”
His stony expression didn’t falter, didn’t reveal any kind of emotion. He was so hard to read, and I wanted to read him so badly. He gave a small nod and handed me the CD cover.
“Better go and make sure these guys aren’t cheating.” And without another word, he got up and headed towards the pool table.

He prefers groupies with no-strings attached but finds himself strangely attracted to Jinx, the straight-A student in his choir. Lennon’s curiosity overrules his good sense as he tries to peel away the layers to discover the reason for Jinx’s skittishness.

Jinx conceals the black truth about herself from her friends. She won’t admit to them that she screwed up big time, losing her first love and what she once held most precious.

When Lennon’s band holds auditions to replace their keyboard player, Jinx comes to tryout and almost leaves after seeing Lennon. Despite the fact she despises him, she joins the band to nurture her love of music that will hopefully ease the guilt gnawing away at her.

Like the rest of his band mates, Jinx soon witnesses Lennon battling his infamous father for the custody of Currie. About the Author

Chris Myers suffers from an overactive imagination. In second grade, Sister Bernice produced Chris's first play about pumpkins mauling and eating children. Apparently, the nuns didn’t catch the underlying meaning. This instantly raised Chris to stardom amongst her peers for the several days off from schoolwork while in production. She spent her high school years writing torch songs for fantasy guys then moved onto writing thrillers and young adult. Chris lives in Colorado with her daughter, her better half, and BeBe, a rambunctious Bichon.

Chris literally has very few photos of herself, even though photography put her through college. Here she is with her sisters and daughter. Chris is the one with the vino.

Chris started out as an art major, then moved to bio-chem, hoping to play Victor Frankenstein as a genetic engineer or messing with people's minds as a psychiatrist. Just as she was about to graduate, she decided being broke for another four to ten years wouldn't work out for her adventurous spirit and traveling. She ended up with an electrical engineering degree then a masters. As it turns out, she should've finished her first novel twenty-five years ago and stuck in the make-believe world where she is happiest.
